Today, we begin early after a light breakfast, making our way to Tarboche. Remember to fill your water bottle before embarking on the trek. Before commencing the kora, all pilgrims have the opportunity to visit Yama Dwar. Tarboche, located towards the South face of Mount Kailash, is where you can hire horses/ponies for the trek, although it's important to note that the price and availability of these services are controlled by the local Union and Kailash yatra trip operators, and our team has no control over them.
From Tarboche, we proceed to Yama Dwar, considered the starting point of the Kailash kora. The 12-kilometer trek to Dirapuk begins from Yama Dwar, and while it's relatively manageable, the high altitude can make it a bit challenging due to lower oxygen levels. We'll take a break midway, where you'll find small shops and a tea stall, before continuing to Dirapuk.
Upon reaching Dirapuk, you'll be greeted by the majestic sight of Mount Kailash towering on your right. Capture some beautiful photos before heading to your guesthouse near Dirapuk Monastery. The night temperatures can drop below freezing, so dinner will be quick and light (Khichdi, soup, etc.), and you'll rest in your bed for the night.
